Negotiations Between IG Metall and Volkswagen to Begin Tomorrow
Negotiations between Germany's largest labor union IG Metall and Volkswagen will begin tomorrow. IG Metall's chief negotiator, Thorsten Groeger, stated, "Tomorrow, we will not only express what we are demanding but will also take an unusual step by presenting our own proposals." Workers are preparing to make concessions worth 1.5 billion euros in ongoing negotiations regarding cost reductions with Volkswagen, while warning of a potential large-scale conflict if the car manufacturer insists on shutting down factories. Thorsten Groeger warned that otherwise, Volkswagen workers would enter into a conflict with the company "the likes of which this republic has not seen for decades."
