Interest rate comment from Chicago Fed President Goolsbee
Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee said a September rate hike is uncertain and nothing is off the table. The Fed has not decided whether to raise or hold rates at its next policy meeting in September, Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee said Monday, stressing that “nothing is off the table.” Goolsbee said he is monitoring new monthly data for core inflation for both goods and services and housing. He noted that depending on how inflation indices are calculated, he expects higher rents to start to trickle down in inflation data. “Anything that we get in the near term in terms of lowering services inflation is kind of just an added bonus because we’ve always thought that was the stickiest part of inflation, and we’ve actually seen some progress on that front, which is a nice bonus,” he said.
