China Files Complaint Against the European Union at the World Trade Organization

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce is initiating a new tension on the global trade stage concerning the tariffs imposed by the European Union on electric vehicles of Chinese origin. China announced its discontent on Thursday by filing an official complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO).

In a statement from the Ministry of Commerce, it was expressed that this step aims to protect China's interests, especially in the electric vehicle sector. Additionally, it was emphasized that this move is an effort to promote global cooperation in the green transition. The Beijing administration stated that it is closely monitoring developments in global trade and is opposed to such protectionist measures.

A 35.3% tariff on Chinese vehicles In line with a definitive decision taken by the European Union last week, a 35.3% customs duty was decided to be applied to electric vehicles imported from China. This decision was published by the EU and went into effect, provoking a strong reaction from China.

Chinese officials argue that such "protectionist" measures will negatively impact bilateral trade relations. The EU's decision has prompted China to question its trade policies and ignited a new trade dispute between the two economies. The Chinese government states that it will continue to take steps on international platforms to encourage the EU to change its stance.

Mutual trade investigations initiated Following these developments, China decided to launch its own trade investigations into certain products originating in Europe. This year, China has scrutinized products such as cognac, dairy products, and pork imported from the European Union.

The Ministry of Commerce expressed disappointment over the high tax decision made by the EU regarding electric vehicles, claiming that this decision adversely affects not only China but also the representatives of the industry and the public in EU member countries. The statement stressed the need for the EU to reconsider this decision. China has indicated that it will act within international norms to ensure a constructive outcome for all parties involved in this process.

These developments are drawing the attention of experts regarding how global trade balances will be shaped. The trade tension between China and the European Union seems likely to be a frequent topic of discussion in upcoming international economic forums.
