No Price Hike for Electricity and Natural Gas in January
Energy and Natural Resources Minister Bayraktar made statements regarding the recent claims about electricity and natural gas price increases. He asserted that these claims are unfounded and emphasized the significant support from the government in the energy sector.
According to Bayraktar, there will be no increase in electricity and natural gas prices in January. He stressed the government's commitment to delivering energy to the public at reasonable costs. However, he expressed that those segments that do not genuinely require support and consume high amounts of energy should pay the actual costs of electricity and natural gas.
With the new regulation, high consumers will pay the real cost. Minister Bayraktar noted that households in Turkey consume an average of 200 kilowatt-hours of electricity per month. He mentioned that with the latest regulation by the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK), households consuming 417 kilowatt-hours or more will start using electricity at its real cost from February. Bayraktar emphasized that the main goal of this regulation is to ensure fair energy consumption.
Continuing with his statements, Bayraktar recorded that the average electricity bill in Turkey is approximately 414 lira per month. He indicated that this amount will continue to be paid in January, and those consuming 400 kilowatt-hours, which is double the normal consumption, will face a bill of around 1,050 lira. He stated that this indicates the exceeding of the specified consumption threshold and signifies that individuals are not part of the group that requires support.
