Turkey's Natural Gas Production Continues to Surge Strongly
In August, Turkey experienced a notable increase in its natural gas import volume compared to the same period last year. According to data published by the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK), the import volume rose by 5.74%. Natural gas imports, which were 3 billion 681.35 million Sm³ in August of last year, reached 3 billion 892.53 million Sm³ in the same month this year.
A significant portion of natural gas imports was supplied through pipeline gas, with 90.12%, or 3 billion 507.8 million Sm³, being transported via pipelines. Additionally, liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports amounted to 384.73 million Sm³, accounting for 9.88% of total imports. This data indicates that Turkey continues to maintain diversity in its natural gas supply strategies.
Natural gas production and exports saw a marked increase in August. Production rose by 417.6% compared to the previous year, reaching 217.80 million Sm³. This increase is a significant indicator of the growth in domestic production capacity. Furthermore, natural gas exports experienced a remarkable surge, rising by 324.88% year-on-year to 189.76 million Sm³.
This increase in production and exports aligns with Turkey's goals of growth in the energy sector and reducing dependency on external sources. The positive trend in the energy sector has the potential to contribute to the country's economy and energy supply security.
Turkey's natural gas consumption in August decreased by 3.61% year-on-year, amounting to 3 billion 383.62 million Sm³. Consumption was recorded at 3 billion 510.34 million Sm³ in August of the previous year. The decline in consumption may be related to energy conservation and changing energy usage trends.
Additionally, there was a decrease in natural gas stocks. By the end of August, stocks decreased by 17.71%, reaching 4 billion 327.06 million Sm³. In August of the previous year, stocks were at 5 billion 258.32 million Sm³.
