Shopping Mall Square Meter Efficiency Index Increased by 55% Year-Over-Year in August
The Foreks - Shopping Mall Square Meter Efficiency Index increased nominally by 55% in August 2024 compared to the same month in the previous year. The results for the Shopping Mall Index, collaboratively developed by the Shopping Malls and Investors Association (AYD) and Akademetre Research, were released. According to the data regularly published each month, the turnover index rose to 3279 points in August 2024, marking a 55% increase when compared to the same month last year, without adjusting for inflation. Considering that the annual inflation rate announced for August 2024 was 51.97%, the increase in the square meter efficiency index exceeded the inflation rate.
In the August 2024 period, the square meter efficiency index saw a rise of 5.5% compared to July 2024, reaching 3279 points without accounting for inflation. The turnover per rentable square meter in shopping malls was 12,500 TL nationwide in August, with 14,512 TL in Istanbul and 11,159 TL in Anatolia.
Category-Based Turnover Index When comparing the index categorized by sectors to the previous August, the highest increase was seen in the "Other" category at 60.1%. The hypermarket category increased by 58.6%, technology by 57.6%, food and beverage by 56.6%, footwear by 54.6%, and clothing by 52.5%.
When comparing the category-based turnover index to the previous month, July 2024, there were increases of 11.8% in the footwear category, 6.4% in the other category, 5.2% in clothing, 4.9% in technology, and 2.9% in both the food and beverage and hypermarket categories.
Visit Count Index In August 2024, there was no change in the visit count index compared to the same month in the previous year. Additionally, there was no change in the visit count index when comparing August 2024 to the previous month, July 2024.
