Headline: Cordel's AI System for Railway Line Analysis Secures Network Rail Certification
LONDON - Cordel Group PLC (AIM: CRDL) has received a Certificate of Approval from Network Rail for its Artificial Intelligence (AI) platform, which analyzes transport corridors. This certification confirms that Cordel’s AI-powered outputs have been approved for measuring Overhead Line Equipment (OLE) within electrification systems using LiDAR data collected from passenger trains traveling at speeds of up to 140 km/h.
The approval process included rigorous testing and trials where Cordel's system was benchmarked against traditional data sources. These conventional methods involve specialized vehicles and manual measurements, which are not only slower but also entail safety risks. Cordel's technology demonstrated compliance with Network Rail's stringent standards, particularly section 6.1.2 of the standard NR/L2/ELP/27325, which relates to Monitoring of Traction Power Contact Systems from On-Train.
With this certification, Cordel's system is now recognized for deployment across Network Rail's infrastructure. The AI-assisted process provides accurate static contact wire height, stagger, and deviation measurements. These measurements are critical for verifying compliance with standards and identifying potential issues that may require proactive maintenance to prevent operational incidents.
The certification covers the entire process from point cloud capture via Cordel’s Mobile Laser Scanning systems to the automated AI processing of the data. This technology not only ensures safety and compliance but also optimizes infrastructure maintenance and potentially extends the intervals between required interventions.
This latest achievement complements Cordel’s existing National Rail certifications for Survey (NR/L2/TRK/3100) announced on June 12, 2023, and Structures, Platforms, and Clearances (NR/L2/TRK/3204) set to be announced on June 11, 2024.
John Davis, CEO of Cordel, commented on the certification, stating that the approval by Network Rail, known for its rigorous standards in infrastructure monitoring, reinforces Cordel’s position as a leading provider of AI-driven insights for railway infrastructure.
This development reflects Cordel’s progress in advancing railway safety and efficiency through its innovative technology, as indicated in a press release.
