Trump's warning to the EU about retaliation: The trade war is heating up.
U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a response to the European Union's planned additional tariffs on American products. During a meeting with Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin on Wednesday, Trump expressed strong opposition to the European Commission's decision to implement extra tariffs on €26 billion (approximately $28 billion) worth of U.S. goods next month. He stated, "Of course, I will respond," indicating that the U.S. will take countermeasures.
The Trump administration has implemented a 25% additional tariff on imported steel and aluminum, aiming to protect U.S. producers while escalating the global trade war. Canada, the U.S.'s largest supplier of steel and aluminum, quickly retaliated by imposing a 25% tariff on $29.8 billion worth of American products. In response to these actions, the European Commission also plans to introduce tariffs on U.S. goods, including agricultural products, cars, and technology, expected to take effect next month.
