Opposition in Germany Calls for Vote of Confidence for Chancellor Scholz Next Week

Forex - Friedrich Merz, the leader of the opposition conservatives (CDU) in Germany, stated that Chancellor Olaf Scholz should call for an immediate confidence vote in parliament instead of waiting until January.

In remarks to reporters, Merz said, “The coalition no longer has a majority in the German Bundestag (the lower house of parliament), and therefore we must urgently call for the Chancellor to hold a confidence vote, no later than the beginning of next week.”

Merz also indicated that if the confidence vote occurs next week, early general elections could take place in January.
