Meta Cuts Subscription Fees for Facebook and Instagram by 40% in the EU

Forex - Social media company Meta has announced that it will offer free access to Facebook and Instagram if users in the EU agree to the display of targeted advertisements based on a limited amount of user data.

In October 2023, Meta launched an ad-free subscription service for the EU due to a regulation aimed at preventing anti-competitive practices by technology companies. The subscription service came into effect after the company was fined over $400 million for violating EU data privacy laws by regional regulators.

Meta President Nick Clegg stated on Threads, "The changes we are announcing today meet the demands of EU regulators and go beyond what is required by EU law." The company also mentioned that it would reduce the price of its monthly subscription service for the EU from €9.99 to €5.99 for desktop users and from €12.99 to €7.99 for iOS and Android users.
